Things You Should Know About Your Well System

  • Casing
    • is essential to the strength of the well
    • acts as a barrier against surface and subsurface contaminants–pollutants and microorganisms
    • houses the pipe and pump that delivers the water to your home
    • meet specification requirements
  • Intake Section
    • could be a hole in the bedrock or screened and gravel-packed
    • allows water to enter well
  • A Yield Test
    • will determine if further work to remove any obstructions
    • has a minimum of one hour to perform accurate measurements
  • Proper disinfection must be performed
  • Well Cap
    • should be placed until connected to the structure
    • should be vented to release any gases
    • should have a barrier against contaminants, insects, and other foreign materials
